Duvernay is a neighbourhood in eastern Laval, Quebec. It is bordered to the north by Saint-François and Saint-Vincent-de-Paul, to the east by the Rivière des Prairies, to the south by Saint-Vincent-de-Paul and the Rivière des Prairies and to the west by Pont-Viau/Laval-des-Rapides and Vimont.
The neighbourhood was named in honour of Ludger Duvernay, a printer, journalist and politician from Lower Canada. The name of the neighbourhood was made official on May 12, 1968.
The Duvernay neighbourhood is located in the eastern part of the city of Laval. It surrounds the Saint-Vincent-de-Paul neighbourhood and is bordered to the northeast by the Saint-François neighbourhood. It is bordered to the west by the Auteuil, Vimont and Pont-Viau neighbourhoods. Today, Duvernay is the largest neighbourhood in the city of Laval in Quebec in terms of area, even before Saint-François.
The Duvernay neighbourhood is divided into three parts :
As its name suggests, Duvernay-Ouest is located between the Pont-Viau and Saint-Vincent-de-Paul neighbourhoods south of the Laval (440) highway. This sector is also known as Val-des-Arbres.
As its name suggests, Duvernay-Nord is located north of Saint-Vincent-de-Paul and the Laval (440) highway. It is surrounded by the Auteuil, Vimont and Saint-François neighbourhoods. A recently built part of this sector is also known as Val-des-Brises. However, a large part of this sector is part of a permanent agricultural zone around the Saint-Elzéar and Haut-Saint-François ranges where several fruit and vegetable producers are active.
As its name suggests, Duvernay-Est is located to the east of the district, east of Saint-Vincent-de-Paul and west of the Saint-François district. This sector is also known as Val-des-Ruisseaux and Arèsville. A very strong real estate development is expected in this sector thanks to the opening in 2011 of the Highway 25 bridge.
