Sainte-Julie

Sainte-Julie is a city in Quebec, located in the Marguerite-D'Youville Regional County Municipality (MRC) in the Montérégie region. Situated on Montreal's South Shore, Sainte-Julie is located approximately 20 kilometers east of downtown Montreal.

The city was awarded the title of "happiest city in Quebec" in 2008, 2009, 2011, and 2014 by the Relative Happiness Index (RHI).

Originally named Sainte-Julie-de-Verchères, it was named in honor of Saint Julie, the patron saint of Julie Gauthier, who donated the land where the very first church was built. The church, built at the founding of the parish, was erected on the land of Julie Gauthier, also known as Saint-Germain, who requested that the parish be named after her patron saint, Saint Julie. The second element refers to Madeleine de Verchères.

The town is located on the north slope of Mount Saint-Bruno. Since the 1970s, Sainte-Julie has been a suburb of Montreal and is part of the Montreal Metropolitan Community, although much farmland has been reclaimed from residential development. Highway 20 runs through the southern part of the town, and Highway 30 runs through its western part.
